Labor Day Weekend Wedding at the Edicott Estate [Dec. 10th, 2009|02:50 am]
[Tags|]

Whitney and Aaron planned their wedding all the way from California, I admire people who choose to plan from a distance - it's a much harder task! They chose me to entrust with capturing their day, and I was glad to get to be a part of it. There's something really neat about a destination wedding, it sort of coalesces from all corners and then just "is" and then is gone again. Their day included a short and simple sunset ceremony, followed by a free-flowing reception with people spilling out all doors of the estate into a gorgeous Fall night with a big moon hanging in the sky.

Becky & Jayden - Funky & Fun at McMenamins Edgefield [Dec. 10th, 2009|02:43 am]
At the end of August, I had the great honor of being flown out to Oregon for Becky & Jayden's wedding bash. With poker themed tables, mustache favors, plenty of locally brewed beer aflowin', and a rad DJ - they had a great night. But it all started with a ceremony that was both sweet and silly. The couple encouraged the bridal party to walk down the aisle however they wanted to (you'll spot a tango and the wheelbarrow), a friend wrote a poem for them, and they wrote their own vows that made themselves and each other cry.

Tracey & Scott's Adirondack Fling [Dec. 10th, 2009|02:29 am]
[Tags|]

Tracey & Scott got married at the foot of the Adirondacks at a fun little cabin-in-the-woods type of place. Right as the ceremony was wrapping up, a Great Blue Heron came in for a landing on the pond. After dinner, the silly fun began - sunglasses, inflatable instruments, the village people...you never know what you'll get!

Sarah & Kaitlin, Upstairs on the Square [Dec. 10th, 2009|02:24 am]
[Tags|]

Sarah & Kaitlin were married on a bright summer day on the Harvard Footbridge over the Charles River. I love the symbolism of bridges - joining together, crossing over, meeting in the middle. It really adds a special layer to the ceremony. They and their families adjourned for a sweaty night of dancing, GREAT food, and sweet toasts to Upstairs on the Square - one of my favorite wedding/restaurant venues in Boston. Gotta love the zebra print carpet!

Life Sonata #1 - With Sam & Shou Ping [Dec. 10th, 2009|02:18 am]
[Tags|]

Sam & Shou Ping had a pretty unconventional wedding ceremony at the Hyatt Regency downtown - for two lifetime performers and accomplished musicians, it fit right in with them, however. It featured performances all night long by friends, students, mentors, and colleagues as well as speeches and toasts. They blended both Chinese and Jewish traditions with their own personal ideas on what a wedding should be, and they called it Life Sonata #1.

Karen & Grayson Sail Into the Sunset [Oct. 30th, 2009|12:02 pm]
[Tags|]

Karen and Grayson were married in August in one of my favorite New England churches: Richmond's round church; a beautiful, historic building with tons of natural light and a great rustic feel. Their ceremony (which included a Princess-Bride-Esque "mawwwwage" passage) was thoughtful, touching, and humorous - and the guest/kazoo/All You Need is Love recessional was super sweet. After their ceremony, everyone motored up to Burlington and hopped on the Northern Lights for a sunset cruise around Lake Champlain.

New Fall Contest! [Oct. 26th, 2009|11:59 pm]
A little love from the end of my season! I'm having a bit of a contest!

Let's start with prizes. Although there will be 2 winners, there are three prizes to choose from.

1) An iPod touch - it's so new that the box is still wrapped in film. I haven't even seen it, but I know it's in there!

2) A $50 Gift Card to Stix Boston. Order a 10 Cane Raspberry Sashimi on me. :)

3) A photo shoot with yours truly. Holiday card time is right around the corner.

How to enter:

1) Become my fan on facebook if you aren't already. This gets you (1) entry. If you already are, congratulations, you are already entered!

2) Get your friends to become my fan on facebook. This gets you (1) entry per friend.

3) If I photographed your wedding and you want a 3rd way to enter, email me and I'll spill the secret past-clients-only entry method. It's just a little bonus for those of you who have already hired me. Don't worry, I'll do these again from time to time, so if your wedding hasn't happened yet you'll get the secret way next time. :)

The Winners:

I will draw the name of a winner. Then I will ask who referred them to me and that person is the second winner.

So if I pick Suzie Q. Jones and ask who referred her to me...and she says that you did - you get a prize too. It's that simple!

I'll pick a winner on the 27th of October and announce it via next month's newsletter, on facebook, and in my blog!

It's Nicer in Newport. [Sep. 21st, 2009|12:12 am]
[Tags|, ]

Amy & Jeff got married at the Newport Naval Base Officer's club on August 1st. Jeff and some of his boys are in a number of branches of the military, but not the Navy (I was confused, but I got it straightened out) so there are some snazzy boys in uniforms if you're looking for a little eye candy. :) They had a musician friend that they've been following since college play for most of the wedding, the bridal party knew all the words and sang along. Just when he thought he was done for the night (the dance floor had cleared and everyone was outside enjoying the night air) the groom asked for another set and everyone gathered their chairs to the edge of the dance floor and the room took on the intimate air of a house concert. It was the perfect ending to their night.

Sing Along With Rachel & Nick (and then let's go to the Harrington Farm!) [Sep. 21st, 2009|12:02 am]
[Tags|, ]

Rahel & Nick were married at their family church and there was my joyful singing at this wedding than I have ever heard at another! I honestly could feel the love flowing. They also had a friend give a very heartfelt tuba tribute to them. Musical all around! After the ceremony, we all headed to the Harrington Farm - another venue that I just *love* for the space, the way they take care of their couples but also for the AMAZING food. The DJ made a fun little dancefloor stencil for them (you'll see it in some pictures) - it was the first wedding that I've been to with one and I hope to see more of them, it was a great little personal touch. I also have super high standards for DJs and Greg Bedard makes my cut. Check him out!

Chucks all around at Laura & Aaron's Wedding [Sep. 20th, 2009|11:56 pm]
[Tags|, ]

Laura & Aaron got married at the Coachmen's Lodge in Bellingham under the pond-side gazebo. Their personal touches included a wedding party (and the bride) in Converse, brightly colored fans for their guests, bubbles (and not the normal wedding bubbles), and a great must-play list with some selections I know the DJ was hesitant to play - The Beastie Boys? Yes, sir. :) Also, I know a lot of girls choose to wear contacts for their wedding day, but I just love a bride in glasses.

Kim & Doug Sail Away Into the Sunset [Sep. 20th, 2009|11:45 pm]
[Tags|]

Kim & Doug got married in a sweet little park in the center of Plymouth surrounded by their family and friends. We wandered all over it to take pictures and then they stormed the Plymouth Yacht Club for their beachy reception. Kim won a wedding dress at a bridal fair and had it tailored into a reception dress so that she could wow Doug a second time - it was super sweet! Check out the perfect Cape Cod hydrangeas that adorn their cake. I just love the color of those flowers.

Yvonne & Anthony Tie the Knot in Vermont! [Sep. 20th, 2009|11:45 pm]
Yvonne & Tony came all the way up to Vermont from Tennessee to get hitched. They had their ceremony in the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph, which after almost 10 years of living in Vermont I'd never been inside of - it's GORGEOUS! And speaking of gorgeous, they hired my favorite florist (Floral Artistry) to do their buds and they came out just as lovely as I would expect from Alison's talented hands. At their reception they had a s'more station and some great personal touches (like the Mr. and Mrs. signs on their chairs). It was small and intimate, like many destination weddings; but their guests had a blast and tore up the dance floor all night!

Stacy & Bill's Boston Harbor Hotel Blowout! [Sep. 20th, 2009|11:30 pm]
Stacy & Bill had a boisterous blowout at the Boston Harbor Hotel. There were beautiful, colorful flowers; color-changing uplights; a fun DJ; and lots of people willing to get up and party. With music that showed both Bill's influence (he's a drum and bass DJ) and Stacy's family's taste for Indian music, in addition to the traditional wedding fare- there was something for every taste and the dance floor was packed all night long. My ears were ringing for days, but throwing myself into the middle of the throng was so worth it!

Jenn & Jenn! [Sep. 20th, 2009|11:05 pm]
[Tags|, ]

On June 20th, Jenn & Jenn had a Jenn-tastic wedding at one of my new favorite venues (the Essex Retreat and Conference Center). They asked their guests to come in their favorite "Life is Good" gear - expressing their general philosophy in this world - so you'll notice a bit of a color and topic theme among the attending. Their ceremony perfectly blended the spiritual and the their personalities (including a 7th inning stretch during which the guests sang a rousing chorus of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

Two Grooms! Puppy love, tapas, cocktails, and a whole new garter tradition... [Jul. 23rd, 2009|04:15 pm]
[Tags|]

While I work a lot with the GLBT crowd I had yet to do a 2-grooms wedding until Jimi & Keith came along...and I was so excited! The boys had a friend-officiated ceremony that made me cry (cue: Seasons of Love), their adorable dog Mickey brought the rings, and the reception was tapas and cocktails (which caused a bit of trouble later in the night).

They threw their bouquet (each attendant had carried one flower which they bound up to toss) shedding glitter everywhere as it went and much to the surprise of all, Keith was wearing a garter. They even put their own spin on the dollar dance, playing club music and getting saucy with any guest willing to pony up a few bucks. I was sad that my wallet was in the car. ;)

Wedding #100! [Jul. 23rd, 2009|04:00 pm]
[Tags|]

Cindy & Will (my lucky #100!) created a wonderful event for themselves - their ceremony at the Ritz overlooking the Boston Common, portraits in the park, a 13 course traditional Chinese Wedding Banquet at China Pearl (where I think I ate smoked eel...maybe?) and then an after party at Will's home away from home - the Cambridge Brewing Company.

They also crafted a beer for their guests Double Happiness, a Lychee flavored brew, that was bottled as favors and also on tap at their CBC after-party.

I'm not a beer girl, but I had some and it was pretty tasty, as were Will's signature barley wines.

A good time was had by all!

DIY Upper Cape Style, Yellow, and The Unlucky Man [Jul. 23rd, 2009|03:32 pm]
[Tags|]

Emily & Scott were married at the Bay End Farm back in June among their family and friends. Their event was a community celebration - she was married by her sister Kaitlin (whose wedding I photographed in the Fall), Em did her own flowers, an Aunt made their cake, and everyone pitched in to make sure their day ran smoothly.

During the ceremony, it was brought up that Scott has unusually bad luck including on one occasion being struck by lightning and on another his car bursting into flames rather unexpectedly. But as Kate put it during the ceremony, "I really don’t think of him as unlucky. He did after all find my sister and is standing next to her today, ready to continue their journey together as a married couple. That alone makes him the luckiest man I know."

Jen & Brian's New Seabury Wedding [Jul. 17th, 2009|12:29 am]
When I walked into Jen's bridal suite, I saw one of the most unique traditional wedding gowns I've ever seen-- and as it turns out, she'd collaborated with the designer to craft it just for her. It showed! It also paired beautifully with the vintage veil (her mother's) that she donned for her walk down the aisle.

Jen & Brian had a rainy day wedding on the upper cape - their ceremony, a beautiful contemporary mass at the Corpus Christi, was followed by an elegant reception at the New Seabury. Then their family (many of whom had made the trip in from the Phillippines), friends, and adorable flower girls, danced through the night.

Krisola makes it official! [Jul. 16th, 2009|11:26 am]
Kris & Nicola or "Krisola" as they are sometimes jokingly referred to had a touching ceremony in Brighton followed by a reception in Mendon full of games, tons of sweet speeches, and a surprise song by Nicola's grandfather. The couple wowed their friends and family by changing into a second set of wedding duds for the reception-- Kris going from a white tux to a black one and Nicola changing from a heavily beaded ballgown into a tailored trumpet style gown with a perfect row of buttons down the back. They make a stunning pair.

Rock Beats Scissors at Amy & Chris' Wedding [Jun. 24th, 2009|04:17 pm]
Amy and Chris had their whole day at the Wayside Inn and Martha Mary Chapel - rustic, fun, re-enactors, and a big red waterwheel to boot! They chose one of my all-time favorite officiants for their ceremony and she brought out their personalities so well (as is her talent). They had a quaker-style anyone moved to speak may speak section and then did rock paper scissors to see who would do their vows first. I'm not telling who won, but I'll tell you that the winner threw rock-- you'll have to keep an eye out for it.

The song that their slideshow is to is their first dance- I'll be the first to tell you that I'm not all that into country music, but I definitely got a little wet around the eyes listening to the lyrics.
